  • RACING RULES
    The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) and the prescriptions and special regulations of Yachting Australia (YA). YA Special Regulations, Part 2, Off The Beach Boats will apply.
    If there is a conflict between languages, the English text will take precedence
  • ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
    The regatta is open to all Hobie 14, 16, 17, 18, Hobie Tiger and Hobie Wildcat of the International Hobie Class Association.
  • 2.1  A minimum of 5 entries is required to form a class. If sufficient entries for a class are not received by Thursday 1st November 2012, the Organising Authority reserves the right to cancel racing or make other arrangements for the class concerned.
  • 2.2  The skipper and crew shall be financial members of the International Hobie Class Association or a National fleet, which is financial with the International Hobie Class Association and is affiliated with a State or National Yachting Authority.
  • 2.3  The skipper and crew shall be a member of a yacht club affiliated with its National Authority.
  • 2.4  The Hobie 16 National Youth Championships will be conducted without spinnakers.
  • 2.5  Eligible boats may enter online at www.hobiecatnationals.com.au, or by sending a completed Official Entry Form available to download from www.hobiecatnationals.com.au and forwarding together with the required Entry Fee by Friday December 28th 2012 to:

3. ALTERATIONS TO CLASS RULES
The Class Rules of the IHCA will be altered as follows:
  • 3.1  Maximum age for both the skipper and crew for the Youth Series, at the commencement of racing, will be 21. (Proof of age will be required). This alters IHCA Class Rules: General Rule 17.7
  • 3.2  Minimum age for the Masters Series is 45 years (for the skipper only) at the commencement of racing. (Proof of age will be required). The age of crew members in the Masters Series is open: General Rule: 17.8.a.
  • 3.3  GrandMasters will compete for the Fossil Cup. Minimum age for the GrandMasters Series is 55 years (for the skipper only) at the commencement of racing. (Proof of age will be required). The age of crew members in the GrandMasters Series is open. This alters IHCA Class Rule: General Rule: 17.8.b.
  • 3.4  The results of the relevant Youth Classes at the Hobie Cat Australasia & Hog’s Breath Café Australian Hobie Cat National Championships 2012 will be provided to Yachting Australia and used in the calculation of the point score for the Youth Sailing Grand Prix. In entering the Hobie Cat Australasia & Hog’s Breath Café Australian Hobie Cat National Championships 2012 athletes agree to be bound by the Terms and Conditions of the Youth Sailing Grand Prix. Youth Sailing Grand Prix, eligible athletes must be aged under 19 at the 31st December 2012).
4. ADVERTISING
  • 4.1  RRS 80 applies.
  • 4.2  Each competitor boat shall display advertising supplied by the organising authority as follows: Hogs Breath Sticker on each bow in an appropriate, readable manner.

6.1 There will be a maximum of 14 races for all classes. The race committee may hold up to 4 races per day for each class with some back to back races
  • MEASUREMENT
    Measurement is not required, but it is the responsibility of each skipper to ensure her/his boat complies with the IHCA class rules. Random measurement checks and inspections may be carried out at any time. A boat notified of inspection shall follow the instructions of the Race Committee.
  • SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
    The Sailing Instructions will be available to competitors on completion of registration.
  • RACING AREA
    The racing area will be on the waters of Port Phillip Bay in the vicinity of the Host Yacht Club.

  • REGATTA SITE
    The regatta site will be Port Melbourne Yacht Club, Bay Street, Port Melbourne 3207.
  • COURSES
    The course(s) shall be as described in the Sailing Instructions.
  • PENALTIES
    Rule 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty.
  • SCORING
    The Low Point scoring system, Appendix A.4.1 of the Racing Rules of Sailing as amended, will be used.
  • 13.1  One(1)raceisrequiredtoconstituteaseries.
  • 13.2  Whenfewerthanfour(4)raceshavebeencompleted,aboat’sseriesscorewillbe
    the total of her race scores.
  • 13.3  Whenfour(4)toeleven(11)raceshavebeencompleted,aboat’sseriesscorewill
    be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
  • 13.4  Whentwelve(12)ormoreraceshavebeencompleted,aboat’sseriesscorewillbe
    the total of her race scores excluding her two worst scores.
  • PERSONAL FLOTATION
    All competitors shall wear personal flotation devices, which are in good condition and are in accordance with the specifications issued or approved by a national authority affiliated to the International Sailing Federation, or a standards organisation, or certification authority, recognised for the purpose by its respective government. Attention is drawn to Fundamental Rule 1.2
  • RADIO COMMUNICATIONS
    A boat shall neither make radio transmission while racing nor receive radio communication not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones, text messages and emails.
  • SUPPORT BOATS/COACHES
    Team Managers, Coaches and other support personnel shall keep 100m clear of the course area during racing, except in boats provided by the organising authority or when asked to assist by the Race Committee.
  • PRIZES
    Prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the Organising Committee
  • RIGHTS TO USE NAME AND LIKENESS
    In participating in an event, a competitor automatically grants to the Organising Authority and the sponsors of the event, the right in perpetuity, to make, use and show, from time to time and at their discretion, any motion pictures, still pictures and live, taped or film television and other reproductions of him/her during the period of the competition for the said event in which the competitor participates and in all material related to the said event without compensation.
  • ENTRY DISCLAIMER
    It is the competitor's decision to enter an event or to start and continue in any race. Competitors shall accept that their participation in an event is at their exclusive risk in every respect. See RRS Rule 4, Decision to Race.
    The Organising Authority, and the respective host class association(s), their officers, members, servants and agents accept no liability in respect of loss of life, personal injury or loss or damage to property which may be sustained by reason of their participation or intended participation in an event or how so ever arising in connection with an event
  • INSURANCE
    All boats competing in the Hobie Cat Australasia & Hog’s Breath Café Australian Hobie Cat National Championships 2012 shall have third party insurance cover of

not less than AUD$5,000,000 (recommended AUD$10,000,000) or equivalent thereof in any other currency for any accident. All owners/competitors who sign the Entry Form are deemed to have made a declaration that they hold such cover. Competitors may be required to produce evidence of such insurance and any competitor not holding this cover shall withdraw their entry. Adequate racing insurance is also recommended for this event.
