Day One of the Hobie 16 Open and Masters. Beautiful clear blue sky and clean blue water made for amazing sailing today. Race one started in a building SW sea breeze. Gav and Worsty wanted to be noticed and went for a port start. Dipping most of the fleet and headed out to the right side of the course. The boys from Vincentia were proud to pull off a port start in the same race in better style than Gav, but it kinda unravelled after that.
Aside from the recall in race 3 (what would a Hobie regatta be without a few recalls) the highlight of the day today was the number of really close finishes. Check out the photos to see just some of the super close racing all the way to the line.
Quinny felt obliged to teach young Noah the finer points of the “Hobie Salute” after getting tea bagged in race 2, before finding his mojo and jumping up into the top 10 in the last 2 races of the day.
Day and Clare were the class act for today, with Gav/Worsty, Cam/Suzi not far behind making WA the state to beat. Fletch and Elly are currently 4th and the first boat from the east.
Tomorrow’s forecast is for light wind and 41 degrees, which should mix up results.
